Museum supporters from around the country gather in Washington, DC each year for Museum Advocacy Day, sponsored by the American Alliance of Museums, to bring a unified message to Congress about why museums are essential and how federal policies affect museums. Participants include museum directors, staff, volunteers, students, board members, and business owners. The Alliance helps attendees make a case for federal funding, federal education policy, charitable giving incentives, and recognition of the economic impact and job creation of museums by providing comprehensive policy briefings and scheduling meetings on Capitol Hill.
Museum Advocacy Day is February 23-24, 2015
SCFM is proud to be a part of this event every year and is committed to sending 1 representative from each of the 7 congressional districts. To that end, money is available to SCFM members for the registration fee and a $125 stipend. Preference is given to members from each congressional district. If you think you may be interested in attending next year’s Museum Advocacy Day (typically around the end of February), please contact Joy Raintree, 2nd Vice President, 803-827-1473, jraintree@scprt.com.
